Miniature, Decorative, Industrial And Household Incandescent Light Bulbs
Incandescent light bulbs contain a wire filament that’s enclosed in a glass envelope which is filled with an inert gas or a vacuum and sealed by a base. The filament is heated to a high temperature so that it produces light.
Incandescent light bulbs are available in many shapes, sizes, base types and applications to include miniature bulbs, decorative bulbs, industrial bulbs, and household bulbs. While the majority of incandescent light bulbs are currently being phased out in favor of LED options, this bulb type is still in use in many applications, such as aircraft cockpits, industrial sign lighting, rough service bulbs in work areas with extreme vibration, commercial kitchens and appliance light bulbs, or as indicator bulbs.
The part number of incandescents often indicates various bulbs specifications, including the wattage, shape, diameter, and type.
For example, the part number 100R40/FL, refers to a bulb that is 100 watts. The R refers to the reflector shape of the bulb. As an industry standard, the number following the letter (indicated as the diameter) is divided by eight, thus the 40 in the part number above refers to a diameter of five inches. The FL means that this is a flood light.
Incandescent Light Bulbs For Many Applications
These bulbs are also still used as various types of specialty lighting in fixtures and settings that require a unique bulb shape. Examples of this are candelabra, flame, globe and torpedoshapes in chandeliers, sconces, and other types of decorative fixtures.
Incandescent bulbs also include party bulbs, bulbs used in string and novelty lights, and globe bulbs that are used in dressing rooms and at stylist’s or makeup counters. They may also be used as part of amusement park booths, rides, and similar fixtures.
Infrared heat lamps for use in food service, animal incubators, and enclosures are available as incandescents, as well as grow lights which are used in greenhouse and horticultural applications.
The glass used in incandescent lamps may be clear, frosted, mirrored top and colored to create various lighting effects and ambient qualities. Shatter-resistant incandescent bulbs feature an outer coating of silicone or Teflon that keeps cracked bulbs contained and prevents loose shards, which is a useful safety measure in food service, medical, industrial, and other applications.
We carry incandescents that are manufactured as rough service (RS) bulbs used in industrial applications. As most household incandescent lamps are no longer manufactured, these bulbs can be used in their place, but they contain a stronger, sturdier filament that’s designed to function in high vibration work areas.
Manufacturers have replaced the incandescent household "A" shaped lamps with a halogen version. This lamp provides a brighter light with a reduced wattage.
